Put Your Foot Down: Refuse To Be Direction-less In Your Life Journey

In your journey of life, when you don’t have a navigational plan, you are swayed this, that and the other way. When you don’t have a plan for your life – 1 year, 5 year, 10 year plan (you get the picture) – you are an easy target for anyone to persuade you to hop onto their bandwagon. You are playing a dangerous game when you allow others to dictate the terms for your life. You cannot be the puppet string that is pulled in every direction by others willy-nilly.

What do you do when you realise that you are walking on a terrain that is not of your own design and you want to change the course of your life? Put your foot down and refuse to be direction-less in your life journey.

Being direction-less in your life journey exposes you to so many facets of life that you would rather not experience yourself. Let me expand on this a bit. When you don’t have your own stamp in life, you are easily influenced by others and are easily susceptible to their wiles and ‘suggestions.’

If you don’t have a plan for your life, anyone can dictate what happens to your life. If you go with the wrong crowd, you are screwed. Their influence will corrode you and before you know it, you will wake up years later and wonder how you got to such a bad place in your life. When you don’t have a plan for your life, it is easy to get you do to things you wouldn’t otherwise do had you had your own plan about how you would like your life to be carved out.

What are these facets of life you shouldn’t have to experience yourself? There are a dime a dozen, but just to give one that stands out. Abuse stands at the top of the list. You become susceptible to abuse from others if you don’t have a plan for your life. When people realise that you are direction-less and are not the driver of your own car, they take the steering wheel and drive YOUR car for you. Do you see where I’m getting with this? It’s dangerous to allow others take control of your life.

When you are direction-less, people take advantage of you and can do as they please with you. After all, they reason, he/she doesn’t have their own path they have carved for themselves. We can do whatever we want with them. I need not go on with this. You can already see how detrimental that is to your life. This is what I mean by experiencing facets of life you would rather not.

Put your foot down and refuse to be direction-less in your journey of life. When you have direction in life, no one can tell you how to live your life. Your 1 year plan will guide you. Your 5 year plan will fortify your fortress. Your 10 year plan will very well be your elixir of life.

img_20161231_154323A plan for your life is akin to a GPS. When you have a GPS and you want to go to a certain destination, you are guaranteed to get there, no matter how long it takes. Your GPS could be 95% correct and perhaps give you a 5% inaccuracy. That is okay because the 95% made sure you are on the right track. All you need to do is work on the 5% to get to your intended destination. We rely on GPS navigation alot when going to places we have never been to.

Do you know why we put so much credence to GPS devices? Because we TRUST that they will take us to the right destination. This trust applies to your life as well. When you have a plan for your life, you trust that you will get to where you want to go. Trust goes hand in hand with FAITH.

When you trust and have faith in your plans, you won’t go wrong. You can go through twists and turns, but ultimately at your core you know that you are going in the right direction. Nothing beats trust and faith in your plan in life. It all starts with putting your foot down and refusing to be direction-less.

Putting your foot down and refusing to be direction-less has so many positive ramifications. Firstly, what that tells others is that you are not to be trifled with and that you have your shit together. Secondly, being purposeful in your pursuits leaves no room for others to manipulate you into hopping onto their bandwagon. When you know what you want from life, you won’t allow others to tell you what you can and cannot do.

If you are reading this and you don’t have a plan for your life, this is the time to change track. 2017 is just around the corner. Use 2017 to map your objectives clearly.

Having a plan for your life means having goals you work towards. Having goals brings focus in your life. Start now and jot down goals you have always wanted to attain but haven’t gotten around to pursuing.

Start with just one goal. Work hard and consistently to achieve it and then proceed to the next one. A year later when you look at your life you will realise that you would have done so much and you are a different person from the person you were a year prior.

Refuse to be direction-less. Don’t allow others to dictate terms for your own life. Start today and have a plan for your life. Put your foot down and carve your own direction.
